Welcome to Department of History

The department of History was established in the year 1997. It is the one of the optional and popular subject at B. A.  It obtained approval for introducing History as a subject in 1997. There are at present 120 sanctioned seats for this subject. There are one full time teachers in the department. The aim of the department is to enable the students to face the challenges of today’s world. It carries out student-centric activities for the development of life skills as well as academic excellence among the students. The department has produced innumerable students  throughout the years. Many students of the department have established themselves in various sectors, especially as accomplished teachers in various Schools and Degree Colleges and keep touch with the department as alumni. 

Besides teaching, the department organizes class wise seminar, debate and prepares students for Quiz competition and Group discussion, department also organised classes for history as a competitive examination subject, so that they can keep pace with the time. The students can express their views independently through debate and seminars and teachers guide them properly in this regard. Above all, the faculty member are always ready to render all possible assistance and guidance to students within and outside the campus as and when required. Consequently students get through the final examination with flying colours every year and go for further higher studies.

Objectives of the department

  • To demonstrate thinking skills by analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating historical information from multiple sources.

  • To develop the ability to distinguish between fact and fiction while understanding that there is no one historical truth.

  • To produce well researched written work that engages with both primary sources and the secondary literature.

  • To develop an informed familiarity with multiple cultures.

  • To employ a full range of techniques and methods used to gain historical knowledge.

Learning Outcomes

  • Students will distinguish between primary and secondary sources and identify and evaluate evidence.

  • Students will demonstrate in discussion and written work their understanding of different peoples and cultures in past environments and of how those cultures changed over the course of the centuries.

  • Students will demonstrate in written work and class discussions the ability to recognize and articulate the diversity of human experience, including ethnicity, race, language, gender, as well as political, economic, social, and cultural structures over time and space.

  • Students will produce their own historical analysis of documents and develop the ability to think critically and historically when discussing the past.
