The Department of Sociology, established in 1997, is one of the oldest departments of Nagar Parishad Shivaji Mahavidyalaya, Mowad. There are at present 120 per year sanctioned seats for this subject. There are one full time teachers in the department. It trains students to grasp the social structures, understand the social processes, map the dynamics of social change and make sense of individual and collective experiences in their proper social context. The study of sociology provides an understanding of human social behavior and analysis of the social processes that unite as well as separate us. Sociologists study structures that organize society such as social institutions, race, social class and gender as well as processes that divide us such as crime and deviance.The department maintained an excellent academic record and has produced a number of eminent alumni who now hold prominent positions in different sectors.

Under UGC XII plan , department has received the grants for conducting National Seminar. In the year 2015 department organised National Seminar on “Impact of New Education Policy on Common People in Global Scenario” on dated 30th  October, 2015.

Mission

  • To examine critically social issues of importance.

  • To develop rational thinking, scientific temper and building youth through value based education.

  • To acquaint to the students about an emerging issues of Indian society.

Learning Outcomes

  • Articulate, apply, and explain the sociological imagination and an inter sectional understanding of social power, especially race, class, gender, sexuality, nationality, religion, ability and age.

  • Differentiate between Sociology and the other social sciences.

  • Identify and apply specific sociological terms and concepts.

  • Identify specific social problems.

  • Identify and analyze how race, class, gender, and ability applies to social problems.

  • Introduce them with the geographical distribution, economy, polity, social organization of tribal life of India.

  • Students will have the opportunity to join professional careers in Sociology and allied fields.
